Recently I was asked to represent my golf club (Clevedon) as part of a small team, playing in pairs. The competition was a Hi-Lo Forsomes Championship held at The Mendip Golf Club on Saturday 13th may 2006. When I arrived in the club house to register I found the representatives of BDGL were very friendly and explained the format (Hi-Lo) very well. As I have only been Playing golf for about 2 years I had never come across the format before. The idea in my opinion was very good, particularly for me the 'high handicapper' because I could learn things from my partner the 'low handicapper'. The golf itself I enjoyed, we got on well with the lads we played with and played to a respectable standard. Luckily this type of competition seemed to suit our game, we posted a good score of 41pts. Fortunately this was enough to win the individual pairs competition. I would love to defend the title with my partner, handicaps permitting ! and would definitely play this format competition again. It was a great day out.

Last year I volunteered to Captain Lansdown 2nd team, and despite being relegated from division 8 enjoyed the experience of playing and meeting many new golfing acqaintancies.

I was also fortunate to be picked to play in the league finals at Saltford. It was excellently hosted and the hard work by the committee ensured that everybody had an enjoyable day.

I was however very disappointed that at least one, possible two teams did not turn out on the day. I find it very hard to believe that they could not get 10 volunteers to play on such an occasion. I did hear it mentioned that perhaps those clubs should be penalised in some way: perhaps by being banned from playing the following year or by being prohibited from hosting the event?

I'd be interested to hear anybody else's point of view and perhaps it could be raised as part of AOB at the AGM on Friday 27th October?
